| new brownpaperbag website is up! |
[Nov. 22nd, 2008|01:28 am] |
so jason finally finished up the new brownpaperbag website! it's got a fancy wordpress blog and everything. plus he did this kick ass illustration for the page that he remixed here:
anyhow, i think i'll mostly be posting there, but i'll keep checking in at the livejournal here and there for important news and to see how everyone is doing.
how is everyone doing? sorry i've been a horrible internet friend. |

| some help, maybe? |
[Oct. 31st, 2008|09:01 pm] |
so i ran into a kerfufl today that i was thinking maybe i could shoot out there and see if anyone out there might be able to help me with it:
so for the last year or two if you typed in 'jonathan hill' into google, my name would pop up in the first three search results on the first page.
i recently was fooling around trying to get myself reacquainted with html and css and redesigned the decor of my site. now mind you, these changes were purely cosmetic. i didn't actually change anything else on the website.
so today i sit down and just wanted to check [like i'm sure many of us do] to see where my name popped up in a google search and my website was nowhere to be found. it got bumped all the way to the FOURTH PAGE of search results.
more jankiness - a search for 'jonathan hill comics' doesn't bring up my website, but a billion other sites where i'm mentioned. but if you type in 'jonathan hill illustration' my site is at the top of the list again.
how did this happen? i tried looking it up online, but i got a bunch of words like 'sandboxing' that didn't make much sense to me or people that changed their sites from html to php and the information being lost.
and lastly - is there anything i can do to at least get it back on the first page of search results? i don't need to be number one, but it seems a bit ridiculous to me that i got knocked down so far down the list.
thanks for any help. i appreciate it. oh, and happy halloween.

| ta-da! |
[Jul. 21st, 2008|10:21 pm] |
remember that story i did last year about the baby vampires giving people hickies? something finally happened with it...
i'm proud to say that i will be making my mainstream comics debut this week in popgun volume 2, published by the same company that published such greats as rob liefeld's youngblood and jim valentino's shadowhawk!
fucking sweet!
and if i remember correctly, the totally awesome meg hunt should be in this volume, too. super fucking sweet!
i guess i should tell you to go check it out or something. please do. or at least tell your moms. |

| funbook 3 illustration |
[Jul. 2nd, 2008|09:01 pm] |
as usual, there's a plethora of inside jokes and gags to behold. i love doing these types of drawings.
anyhow, this will probably be the last post of new art for awhile. i had some breathing time this week and last while i worked on the edits for chapter 2. after this week it's back into the heat of it as i start chapter three.

| (no subject) |
[Jun. 26th, 2008|01:04 pm] |
i won't lie and say i want to post more, because really, i can't. americus takes up most my time, which is fine by me. i have had some other drawing related things to do this week, but i got pretty sick on monday & tuesday, and then spent yesterday doing this. i have the edits on the pages of chapter 2 to do, so it should go by pretty quickly.
anyhow, thought i'd share this - a flyer for an event for a guy at work is hosting. i have another piece to do for the third portland funbook, which is going to be a jonathan classic - 3/4 view crowd scene of pioneer square. i'll post that when i'm done, as they're kinda fun to look at and try to catch all the little things.
even thought i end up dicking around a lot on the internet, i think i'm afraid to check everyone's livejournals because i haven't been part of the 'community' for so long. maybe i'll get over that because i want to see the drawing everyone else is rocking.
hope all is well. |

| some help from someone that knows code stuff? |
[Feb. 6th, 2008|12:14 am] |
so i updated my website, and instead of putting the new stuff in the art section, i tried to put it on the main page. so i had to do some linking out to the lightbox file from the main index. everything seems to be working okay, except that neither the close label nor the loading animation appear. the strange thing is that the left and right arrows show up, and they're all in the same damn file/place/whatever.
does anyone know what to do about this? it's not that big of a deal, it's pretty annoying. that, and i spent most of the night trying to figure what the hell was wrong instead of doing the character designs i had planned.
anyone that can help me out with this would be very, very awesome.
regarless, there's lots of new stuff on the website. |

| uh... |
[Jan. 22nd, 2008|12:51 pm] |
hopping vampires! to appear in the second BEASTS book by fantagraphics!
typical jonathan illustration - white girl kicking ass and saving cowardly asian boyfriend from supernatural creatures.
so i haven't updated my livejournal in like a million weeks. there are lots of explanations for that, the main one being that i've been busy working with greg means and mk reed on a project entitled americus. the first chapter will appear in greg's papercutter anthology that should be out in april or so. it been a pretty interesting/some times difficult/rewarding process working on someone else's script and collaborating with people besides jason and tyler. i think the thing that i'm getting out of it the most is maintaining a drawing schedule. it has made me a little crazy that i've surpassed where i was at with one of the johns, but i've tried not to think about it too much. i think that i'll get back to it when i'm good and ready to get back to it. even if americus takes a year or so, god knows that there have been years that i've done jack all, and at least this will keep me drawing and challenge me.
i also haven't had any interest in being on the internet lately. then i feel bad because i don't want to just post, but i want to read through everyone's entries and comment and, you know, be part of that whole online community and what not. does anyone else get like this? [it's been so long since i've been on the internet, i forgot how to code links]
i'll try to go through and read how everyone's been doing the next couple of days or what not...
jason's working on getting the BPB site blog working, so i think we're going to try to post more there instead of here. we'll see. i think we all need to get our bearings for what kind of projects we want to work on this year.
anyhow... behind the cut is the cover image to the papercutter.
